Ariadna Papió, costume designer

Ariadna Papió Carrasco (Barcelona, 1969). Trained as a fashion and film costume designer at Studio Berçot in Paris (1992-94); she subsequently studied photography at the International Center of Photography (1996 and 1998) and film at the Film/Video Arts School in New York (1998).

 

She designed the costumes for the films La Niña de la Comunión directed by Víctor Garcia (Spain 2021), 70 Big Ones (Spain 2018) and Gernika (Spain 2016) directed by Koldo Serra (nominated at Gaudí Awards 2017 for the best costumes), The Evil that Men do (Spain 2015) directed by Ramón TermensInsensibles (Spain/France/Portugal 2011) directed by Juan Carlos Medina, El Callejón (Spain/Colombia 2012) directed by Antonio Trashorras, ¿Para Que Sirve Un Oso? (Spain 2012) directed by Tom Fernandez, Bruc: la llegenda (Spain 2011) directed by Daniel Benmayor (Gaudí Award 2012 winner for the best costumes), Agnosia (Spain 2010) directed by Eugenio Mira (nominated at the Gaudí Awards 2011 for the best costumes), Camera Obscura (U.S.A.1999) directed by Hamlet Sarkissian and Celestial Clockwork (France 1994), directed by Fina Torres. Also for the Barcelona shoots of Map Of The Sounds Of Tokyo (Spain 2009) directed by Isabel Coixet and Los Condenados (Spain 2009), directed by Isaki Lacuesta.

She has also designed the costumes for the musical video Kebyart Ensemble 2019 and for the Spanish contemporary dance companies Àngels Margarit/ Mudances (2001-2014), Lanònima Imperial (2006-2011), Mal Pelo (2005), and Nats Nus/ Toni Mira (2005). Additionally, she designed the costumes for various performances by the French circus-theater company Théatre à Batir (1994-95).

 

As a costume designer assistant and/or as costume supervisor she has worked on the films Haywire (U.S.A 2011) directed by Steven Soderbergh, Sa Majesté Minor (France/Spain 2007) directed by Jean Jaques Anaud, Perfume: The story Of A Murderer (Germany 2006) directed by Tom Tykwer, Les Parents Terribles (France/Spain 2004) directed by Josée Dayan,The Spell of Shangai (Spain 2001) directed by Fernando Trueba and Gaudi Afternoon (U.S.A/Spain 2000) directed by Susan Seidelman. For television she worked on the series Palomino (England 2022) directed by Iram HaqGenius S2: Picasso (U.SA. 2018) directed by Ken Biller, Emerald City (U.S.A. 2017) directed by Tarsem Singh, Gomorra (Italy 2014-16) directed by Stefano SollimaL’Ombre D’un Crime (France/Spain 2004), directed by Jean Sagols and S-Club 7 (U.S.A. 2002), directed by Jonathan Winfrey.

 

She has been fashion stylist for the newspaper magazines El Dominical/El Periódico and for La Vanguardia Magazine, as well as for some fashion catalogues like Miró Jeans and Mit Mat Mama… and various TV advertisements, including those for Coca-cola 2014, Evax, Fiat Punto, Nesquick and Citroen Shara (1997-2009).

 

She speaks fluent English, French, Spanish, Catalan, and has a smattering of Italian and german.
